Two Months!

Two months already! Jay seems to look more like his dad, at least for now. He is growing so fast (no surprise there, since he eats ALL THE TIME.)

Day One

One Month

Two Months

He shows me what he thinks of tummy time.

And is very happy with his new play mat!

We attempted some pictures with the turtle capelet made by a friend. At least his diaper matches!

We absolutely love our little taggie blanket!

April and May visitors

Forgive me, I've been wanting to get some photos up here for quite some time!

We've had lots of visitors over the last few months, which we have really enjoyed! Kara and Bria came to visit, and Bria got to break in Jay's high chair. We all had a great time together, though we didn't do much of anything between two babies' eating and sleeping requirements!

Bria reminded us that ordinary household items are great toys!

We also got to spend an afternoon with Julie and Toby. It is strange to think that these friendships began twelve years ago when we were in college. And now look at us! With babies!

Uncle Brendan and Auntie Jamie came for a visit to meet their nephew for the first time. We had family tummy time.

And lots of cuddles. The picture below explains our Smushy Face nickname for Jay.

Nana and Papa came to visist too! Nana got lots of snuggles too, and Papa began lesson plans to teach Jay how to curse.

One Month!

Our little man is one month old!

Day 1

Sometimes I'm afraid to move him when he falls asleep after a meal, and we let him sleep like this:

Don't tell the AAP, they'll be worried that he's not on his back!

The first day away

April 2, 2012

Today is the first day Ryan went back to work, and our first day home together just the two of us. We’ve had better nights the last couple nights, with JTW sleeping a little longer between feedings and me able to sleep in bed instead of sitting up on the couch with him in my arms. The goals for the day were to grocery shop and get a walk in if the weather continued to be dry. While I didn't make it to the grocery store, we did make it out for a long walk in the beautiful sunshine. We also had success today in the form of my showering while he slept in his crib, and coming out of the bathroom to find Jay still asleep.
This is J's third outfit of the day, after peeing once and one blowout.

Here is J's fourth outfit, after a second blowout. All before 11:00 am.

We had a short visit last night from Uncle John and Aunt Dorothy - it was delightful to see them and introduce them to JTW.
We had our first glass of wine post-pregnancy last week -  what a treat!

JTW is starting to smile and make eye contact, both of which are delightful to his parents!

The first weeks - part II

During J's second week at home he got to meet Moemoe and Grandpa. Moemoe got lots of snuggles with baby J, and we're so glad they got to come out and meet their first grandson!

On day 12, after sleeping no more than 30-45 minutes in his crib, our sweet boy slept for almost two hours in his crib. It was such a relief to know that he would sleep in his room in time! He also increased his time between feedings, much to the pleasure of his mom!

At his two week appointment we learned that baby J gained a pound in just one week. Average weight gain is half and ounce to an ounce a day, which he far exceeded. I've heard chubby babies referred to as Michelin babies - I think we're on our way to having a Michelin baby!

Thus far we have several nicknames for J - Snugglebug, Smushy Face, and Fussy Pants. Or more formally, Mr. Smushy Face Snugglebug Fussy Pants.

Tummy time with Daddy.
Our first walk in the neighborhood,
and one of our first outings since coming home from the hospital.

This happened. Dad is more traumatized about it than baby J.

J met Auntie Stephanie on her way through town.

At the end of the week we had to say goodbye to the grandparents, which everyone was sad about. We are so blessed with loving families on both sides!

The first weeks - part I

Like most (or all) first time parents, the first few weeks at home were quite an adjustment. The days and nights blurred together, and believe it or not, time flew by, despite the lack of sleep.
We had a doctor's appointment when J was six days old, at which time he had already returned to his birth weight. The doctor was very impressed! The following day, Mommy got to shower and do her hair and makeup - what a treat!

Here are a few highlights of our first days as a new family of three:

Skin to skin time - so precious!

Everyone is tired, can you tell?
